    Description

    Mickey's Rival
Mickey Mouse Animation Drawing (Walt Disney, 1936).
This slick Latin-style lover, Mortimer, turns chicken bones into castanets -- and even taunts a bull into a fight in order to impress Minnie Mouse. The obnoxious character also helps himself to Mickey and Minnie's food, and plays a number of practical jokes on Mickey before beating a hasty retreat from the angry bull -- and leaving Mickey to deal with the problem!
The short was released on 6/20/36 and was directed by Wilfred Jackson. Famed Disney animator/directors Clyde Geronimi and Les Clark contributed animation. The drawing can be seen around or near the 3:50 mark in the film. With a flourish, Mortimer has whipped the picnic blanket out from underneath Mickey (to use it as a cape for the bullfight) and poor Mickey's lands face-down in his coffee cup.
It is unusual to see the ever-cheerful Mickey looking so agitated!
Rendered in graphite and colored pencil on 12 field, 5-peghole animation paper, Mickey measures 2.5" x 3.5".
The drawing is numbered 30 in the lower right corner. Mild age-related toning. Very Good condition.
