Medallion Highlights:
Contains 1 oz of .9999 fine Gold in a beautiful proof finish.
NGC encapsulation guarantees and protects the medallion's Gem Proof condition.
Obverse: Features a kangaroo in a standing pose with the 1853 date and a special mint mark of P2012. The patterned border includes “Port Phillip” and “Australia”.
Reverse: Features a replica of the historic Port Phillip Kangaroo medallion with a large numeral indicating the weight at center. A patterned border contains the words “Pure Australian Gold” and the weight.

The story of the original strikes represent a celebrated piece of Australian numismatic history. The Port Phillip Kangaroo Office was established at the height of the Australian Gold Rush in the mid 19th century when there was an apparent opportunity to purchase nuggets on the Gold fields at a discount and then issue the same as hard currency in the form of minted Gold tokens. In partnership with the Smithsonian Institution, the Perth Mint has released this beautiful Proof Gold replica medallion with a limited mintage of only 2,500!
