1960 Mercedes-Benz 220S 'Ponton' Cabriolet
This 1960 Mercedes-Benz 220S 'Ponton' Cabriolet is a beautiful example wearing an older restoration. Ivory with red leather interior. This highly attractive automobile runs and drives well and presents nicely overall with good paint and chrome. The leather and wood are also in very good condition. A very honest, solid, and straight car.
First introduced in 1956, the Mercedes-Benz 220S sat atop the 220 model range and was the last of the Ponton series cars. Featuring a unitized body/frame construction and a fully independent suspension, the 220S provided the kind of motoring experience that Mercedes-Benz s demanding clients had come to expect of the brand.
The most desirable version of the 220S was the cabriolet model. Built to exacting cosmetic and mechanical standards, a cabriolet cost 75% more than a comparable 220 S sedan, and it was easy to see why. The cabriolet could ferry its driver and three passengers down the motorway and allow them to soak up the sun in style.
As one of only 1,251 Mercedes-Benz 220S Cabriolets produced, these elegant and exclusive limited edition Grand Tourers are highly prized.
