Description
This is a nice, lightly circulated, still lustrous, low mintage, silver,
"Five Escudos"
from
"Portuguese"
Mozambique on the east coast of Africa. Vasco De Gama visited Mozambique on his way to India in 1495 and found Arab trading posts already established there. The Portuguese rapidly took these over and Mozambique became and remained a Portuguese Colony until 1975.
This type 5 Escudos was struck for Mozambique in only two years, 1938 and 1949. This year they struck 800,000 pieces, in 1949 they struck 8 million coins.
Weight: 6.97 Grams, 26 Millimeters, .650 Silver. Mintage: 800,000.
